Scoot celebrates Australia Day with Yeast Extract!Jan 29
A few weeks ago, you read about Scoot’s Head of Commercial (a.k.a. Head Cash Cow), Steven Greenway. Like all great profile interviews, we naturally asked him about the contents of his refrigerator at the time of the article posting. However, what we did NOT ask was the contents of his kitchen cupboard. And after last Thursday, we are pretty sure that one of his answers, if not the ONLY one, would have been….
Oh how he loves his Vegemite. And how he loves sharing his passion with the rest of our office.
So at precisely 1000hrs in the morning of last Thursday, Steven brought the Australia Day celebrations into the office. With the Australian National Anthem playing proudly in the background, he took a break from his super-busy schedule to dish up and serve Vegemite on toast to the rest of the Scoot family.
As much as we appreciated the kind gesture, our ‘poker faces’ do have their limits. To those of you that have not tried Vegemite, it is as an acquired taste as anything can possibly get. No doubt it is extremely nutritious (it’s one of the world’s richest known sources of B vitamins, and contains any fat, added sugar, animal content or gluten), but I have never seen a more appropriate setting for the good ‘ol Mastercard advert:
Bottle of Vegemite – $4.
Look on colleagues faces after their first taste of Vegemite – Priceless.
Of course, there were some people that fell in love with the lovingly-prepared Vegemite toasts, with the record number of 6 slices held by Eugene Tan. According to the Vegemite fans, it reminded them of what they used to eat with their porridge when growing up!
So there, there was a happy ending. Even for those who had not acquired the taste yet, they had a new-found appreciation for the Chinese New Year goodies that were still in the office, which provided a good dessert to the main course of Vegemite.
